Research & Clinical Studies in Von Willebrand Disease
At VWD Alliance, we are committed to supporting and promoting research into Von Willebrand Disease. We connect our community with trusted studies, surveys, and clinical trials so patients, families, and healthcare professionals can stay informed and — where appropriate — take part in advancing care.
Why Research Is Important
Research plays a critical role in improving life for everyone affected by VWD. It helps us understand the real‑world challenges people face, drives earlier and more accurate diagnosis, and guides the development of better treatments and care pathways. By strengthening the evidence base, research ensures that clinical decisions, services, and policies truly reflect the needs and lived experiences of the VWD community.
Earlier diagnosis
Research helps identify patterns, barriers, and missed opportunities so more people are recognised sooner.
Better treatments
It supports the development of safer, more effective therapies and better long-term care pathways.
Real-world insight
Patient experience data helps researchers and clinicians understand how VWD affects daily life.
Stronger services & policy
Evidence helps shape clinical decisions, support services, and policies that reflect community needs.
By supporting and participating in research, the VWD community contributes directly to better healthcare, stronger evidence, and a more informed future for current and future generations.
Explore Active Research Opportunities
We signpost trusted opportunities where patients, families, and caregivers can explore relevant research, clinical studies, and trial pathways connected to bleeding disorders and VWD.
NIHR
The NIHR Be Part of Research platform helps people across the UK find studies relevant to their condition and location.
ClinicalTrials.gov
A global database of ongoing and completed clinical research studies, including trials relevant to VWD.
pRxEngage
A patient-centred platform designed to help people explore research opportunities aligned with their health journey.

Our Strategic Partners
We collaborate with leading organisations, researchers, and industry partners who share our commitment to advancing VWD research, awareness, and patient outcomes.
Star Therapeutics
Star Therapeutics is developing first-in-class therapies for bleeding disorders. Their VEGA Program is investigating VGA039, a Protein S–targeting antibody with the potential to improve life for people living with VWD.
pRxEngage
pRxEngage is a patient-centred clinical trial recruitment platform that helps connect people with research opportunities matched to their personal health profile, making participation more accessible and better informed.
Hemab
Our therapeutic candidates are designed to connect with the body’s natural clotting proteins in a very precise way. This helps protect them from breaking down and lets them build up to levels that can help stop bleeding. In some cases, the treatment keeps the protein active; in others, it turns it off, giving the flexibility to treat different clotting problems. When needed, the technology can also help guide these proteins to the site of an injury to support healing.
Become a Partner
Work with us to drive meaningful change for the VWD community. Whether you’re leading research, developing resources, or building support services, we welcome collaborations that strengthen awareness, improve patient outcomes, and amplify lived experience. Together, we can create a future where every person with VWD is recognised, supported, and empowered.
